I love the painting and drawings of Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), an important (and famous) person in New York City’s art scene in the early- and mid-1980s.
The collage-like quality of his work, which included text (with words at times crossed out or misspelled), symbols, figures, and graffiti, is extremely chaotic — and it has an urban sensibility that feels inextricable with New York. Racism, police brutality, colonialism, and wealth and poverty were often subjects of his work. Basquiat’s interest in anatomy (skeletons, skulls, heads, etc.) began when his mother gave him a copy of Gray’s Anatomy when he was seven years old.

I remember you discovering this artist and how much you liked his work -- way back in the 80s. We should see the doc about him.
