Trump Claims He's Being Arrested On Tuesday -- And Calls For His Violent Supporters To Not "Sit Back & Watch" But Protest The "Killing [Of] Our Nation"
"OUR NATION IS NOW THIRD WORLD & DYING. THE AMERICAN DREAM IS DEAD! ... WE JUST CAN’T ALLOW THIS ANYMORE. THEY’RE KILLING OUR NATION AS WE SIT BACK & WATCH. ... PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!"
It’s no surprise when Donald Trump posts unhinged all-CAPS tantrums — telegraphing his worry about the seemingly endless on-going criminal investigations into his obvious criminal behaviour — on his for-shit, bot-heavy, money-losing, third-rate Twitter rip-off (i.e., Troth Senchal) in the wee hours of the night. But Dolt45’s most recent 4 AM rant had something extra. Trump claimed that he will be arrested on Tuesday, March 21.
Most of this is boilerplate, Trump’s usual sludge of ignorance and nonsense — along with his misspelling of “stolen” (a new feature in 2023). His promise that he will be arrested next week, however, is new.
According to the New York Times, a statement from a Trump spokesman “did not explain how [Trump] had landed on Tuesday as an arrest date. One person with knowledge of the matter said that Mr. Trump’s advisers had guessed that it could happen around then, and that someone might have relayed that to the former president.”
Regardless, the Trump Grift Train immediately started using this prediction of arrest to get as many of his cult members as possible to send him (a self-described billionaire) their hard-earned money.
“MANHATTAN D.A. COULD BE CLOSE TO CHARGING TRUMP. Patriot — With the Deep State gunning for President Trump with phony witch hunts like never before, we had to be sure you saw the *private and secure* message he wrote for YOU. See below!”
[Apparently, Team Trump is now using “Patriot” instead of “Friend”. Why not simply use “Wallet”?]
The Daily Beast reported:
Despite Trump’s claim of a Tuesday arrest, a spokesperson for the ex-president told The Daily Beast that there has been “no notification” beyond “illegal leaks from the Justice Dept. and the DA’s office,” that prosecutors “decided to take his Witch-Hunt to the next level.” The spokesperson added: “President Trump is rightfully highlighting his innocence and the weaponization of our injustice system.” The New York District Attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
If the arrest happens, another Trump lawyer said he’d likely surrender. “There won’t be a standoff at Mar-a-Lago with Secret Service and the Manhattan DA’s office,” Joe Tacopina told the New York Daily News.
Which means, of course, that Trump will most definitely not surrender and there will absolutely be an epic standoff at Trump’s health-club-hotel-omelet-bar.
Mary McCord, the director of a democracy advocacy center at Georgetown Law School, noted that Trump’s tweets (these recent three and many of his older posts) also serv as clear messages to his extremist supporters that mass violence — similar to the January 6, 2021, insurrection — may be necessary and is encouraged.
Trump knows the call-and-response impact of his words on his most ardent followers. His call to “take our nation back,” like his last-ditch call for them to “fight like hell” on January 6, is not only the request but the permission for them to act, violently if necessary.
Federal prosecutor Jack Smith’s Twitter feed can be quite entertaining. Even as Smith investigates the seditious terrorist attack that Trump helped to plan and actively and publicly encouraged, he still has time to let Trump know what’s coming. I can’t imagine anyone would say the things Smith has been saying for months if he did not have a massive indictment coming down the tracks. (I have a bunch of old tweets I should post.)
